During the past several months I have been working on this new Favia Brain Coral Sculpture. This work was inspired by coral photography. This linked photograph shows the Favia Christmas Coral in an open and feeding state. Initially I had created this sculpture for the Lifeforms 2016 traveling glass exhibit. After some thought, I decided to create the pink colored Plate Coral sculpture for Lifeforms 2016. Favia Brain Coral
Detailed Favia Brain Coral
The Favia Brain Coral is an endangered species. It is a very popular coral in the aquarium trade. What appeal to me about this type of coral is the stunning array of brilliant colors. I will be creating different types of corals this year using bright, transparent colors. I use a lot of Glass Alchemy colors such as Pink Rozay, Haterade, Blue Dream, Purple Rain, and now Rain Drop. In future work I will be using more complex color into the detailed forms.
Glass Marine Life Commissions
Currently I am working on a large glass seaweed commission for a client in New York, New York. I have been working closely with this client to develop a show piece for her new apartment. The sculpture is being created using brilliant Haterade green glass by Glass Alchemy. The work explores the complex growth patterns and flowing movement of seaweed. In the upcoming weeks, I will be sharing posted updates about the green seaweed commission.
Glass Sculpture Auctions
In the upcoming months I will be creating several glass auction coral sculptures. These will be smaller glass coral sculptures using bright colored glass from the above noted palette. These sculptures will explore the complex forms and color found in reef corals.
